General presentation

Introduction

Cancer cell resistance to anti-cancer regimens and to the immune system contributes to cancer progression and therapeutic failure. The molecular mechanisms, which control the resistance of tumor cells towards the immune system and anticancer therapies are not yet fully elucidated. A better knowledge of the signaling pathways involved in both phenomena should contribute to the development of novel anti-cancer therapeutic strategies.

On May 6-7, 2013, we are organizing an international meeting on “cancer cell death and resistance” to be held at the Golf of Seilh, near to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (France).

intro

Two recent scientific meetings on cell death in oncology have been recently organized in France

  • The first meeting was a workshop in Dijon (Burgundy, France) organized by Dr. O. Micheau (INSERM UMR 866) in July 2009. This meeting was entitled « Death-Domain-containing receptors and scaffold adaptors : fundamental and therapeutic trails to cancer and immune diseases ». This workshop facilitated the meeting of about 50 French and international scientists and the establishment of collaborative projects. (http://inserm-u866.u-bourgogne.fr/Workshop Dijon/accueil_workshop.html).
  • Thanks to the organization committee from Rennes (Brittany, France) (Drs. P. Legembre, T. Guillaudeux, M.T. Dimanche-Boitrel) and the active participation of scientists from different French laboratories, an international congress entitled « Cell Death in cancer » was organized in May 2012 in St Malo. This 4-day congress was very successful with 150 participants, including prestigious national and international speakers. (http://www.celldeathincancer.com/welcome.php)

Taking into account the success of both scientific meetings, the recurrent organization of congress appears to be essential to structure the research on cell death in oncology in France.

Main topics of the congress

Three scientific sessions are programmed. Six oral communications will be selected by the scientific committee for each session. Two poster sessions are programmed. Five speakers are invited to give prestigious lectures.

Abstract submission

  • Deadline: April 8, 2013
  • Abstracts must be written in English and not exceed 250 words.

Registration fees

  • Local people: 50 € (WARNING: this does not include hotel accommodation)

Main objectives of the congress

  • To mobilize the French and international scientific communities on the topic of “cell death in oncology”.
  • To reinforce the dynamism of the French research in this competitive field by facilitating the establishment of a French network with diverse and complimentary expertise.
  • To foster exchanges between young and senior scientists and favor collaborative, original and ambitious projects in the oncology field.

 Our ambitions

  • To propose prestigious seminars by famous international speakers.
  • To propose oral and poster communications by young scientists.
  • The congress will be organized with the participation of young and senior scientists from academic and private laboratories.
